Plate: Chrysanthemum and Horsefly, Katsushika Hokusai, around 1832

"Chrysanthemum and Horsefly", a woodblock print by Katsushika Hokusai, likely made around 1832. It is one of ten Large Flowers prints he designed in his early seventies, around the same time as his Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, the series that includes his widely famous piece "The Great Wave". Chrysanthemums traditionally symbolize nobility, refinement, and the imperial family in Japan. By pairing an august, revered flower with an ordinary, buzzing insect, Hokusai was perhaps implying his independence from the flower's august history.

Granular processing made simple and accessible. Scatter, vary, smear, and sprinkle grains of your source however you'd like. Soften transients going into the grains, freeze the source, or simply crank the Bloom knob for a sonic kaleidoscope of results.
